2007
(I think I forgot a title or 2, will edit when I remember)-
I normally write short reviews. This year, I just did not have time. I will include a real short blurb if I like it or not. Feel free to ask for any further details
1) Frankenstein by Mary Shelly (Horror/SciFi/classics)256p
-LOVED IT!! Very, very beautiful, no surprise it is a classic.
2) Lives of the Monster Dogs by Kirsten Bakis (Novel- sci-fi ish) 291p
-Liked it very, very much. Thought Provoking. Great book to read after
Frankenstein.
3) From Our Side of the Fence: Growing Up in America's Concentration Camps edited by Brian Komei Dempster (Anthology/Asian American Lit/ Internment Experience)132p
-Very hard to read due to the subject matter, however, it is a very
important book. I highly suggest it.
4) Memory Keeper's Daughter (fiction/family drama) 416p
-Did not like this one very much. Very dark and depressing, in a bad
way. Author tried too hard.
5) Eat, Pray,Love by Elizabeth Gilbert (memoir/travel/spirituality) 334p
-This book was a great big beam of sunshine for my soul. I LOVED IT!
I related so much w/ the author- she had me laughing and crying, often
at the same time.
6) There Are Worse Things I Could Do by Adrienne Barbeau (auto-biography) 335p
-a few entertaining tid-bits about Brodway, LA, etc. Enjoyed reading
about the roots of Grease. The book was an overall "Just OK". She is
not a very good writer, her style of bouncing around everywhere just
annoyed me.
7) The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell(Sci-fi 1st contact/religion/sociology)448p
-LOVED IT! One of the best books I've read in a long time. Dark and
depessing, but in a good way. Will really make you think. One I will
re-read for sure. Heard a rumor of a movie deal!
8) The World Inside by Robert Silverberg (sci-fi utopia/distopia) 166p
-Liked it quite a bit. Reminienst of Logan's Run, but very different.
9) Touching the Void by Joe Simpsom 218p (non-fiction/rock climbing/surrival)
-Liked it. Tale of amazing surrival on a rock climbing trip that went
very, very badly. The writing was a little too over the top at times,
but was mostly good.
10) Grimm's Grimmest edited by Tracy Arah Dockray 144p (Fairy Tales)
-Fun, fun, fun, ooky spooky delights!
11) The Next Accident by Lisa Gardener 387p (Suspense/mystery)
- I needed escapism "fluff"; this fit the bill. I predicted one of the
"surprises" right way, which dampened it a bit. Otherwise, this was
a nice little mystery ride. Will probably check out other books in
this series.
12) Harvest by Tess Gerritsen 343p (Medical Thriller)
It was good for what it was. Liked it.
13) Beggars in Spain by Nancy Kress 438p (Science Fiction)
Really liked the beginning, and then as I kept reading, I still liked
it, but not as much. Turns out it was an expanded novel from the Hugo
and Nebula winning novela. The first part of the book, the part I
really liked, was the novella.

15) Cherokee Bat and the Goat Guys by Francesca Lia Block 128p
